Brigitte Bauer is a visual artist born in Germany in 1959. She lives and works in Arles, France, since 1987.
In 1990 she got a master's degree in photography at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie, Arles and in 1995, a master's degree in Fine Arts at the Université Aix-Marseille. She is actually teaching photography at the Ecole Supérieure des beaux-arts, Nîmes.
After developing a kind of landscape culture in her first series, her current researches are mainly based on the exploration of daily and unspectacular territories and they include a particular long term project about the sense of belonging and distance through her both french and german identity.

Her documentary medium format film, Three of Us, has been shown during the festival Voies Off within the framework of Marseille-Provence 2013, european capital of culture.
She published the books HAUS HOF LAND (Analogues, 2017), Aller aux Jardins (Trans Photographic Press, 2012), Fragments d'Intimité (Images en Manoeuvres, 2007), Fugue (Estuaire, 2005), D'Allemagne (Images en Manoeuvres, 2003) and Montagne Sainte-Victoire (Images en Manoeuvres, 1999).
Brigitte Bauer's works are part of many public and private collections, such as Fonds National d’Art Contemporain, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Deutsche Bank, Union des Banques Suisses, artothèques in Nantes, Miramas, Auxerre, Angers and Pessac, Carnavalet museum, l'Imagerie in Lannion, Théâtre de la Photographie inNice et the Centrer for Photography in Salamanca.
Brigitte Bauer participated in state commissions Euroméditerranée, Marseille en 2002 - 2003 and Un Nouveau Paysage Familial, Nancy, en 2007, as well as in artist residences in Alexandria, Egypt, in 2004 and 2005.
